about

This song was written on the living room floor of a tiny house in Michigan just before Ryan moved back to DC. It had potential to be a Minutes song, but since the song was in B-tuning, it seemed to suit Soccer Team more (we already had a song in B: “World Series Apathy”).
The original title was “Laughing Nose to Chin,” and it’s a fairly direct bit of sympathy for Maria from James Joyce’s “Clay.” The ending of that short story, and its reference to "I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls," is of particular interest.
