about

There is no demo version of "Dinner with Derelicts." The song came from a late night jam between Jason and Ryan, and the vocals performed on the album exist as a first attempt to record any vocals to that song; they were written and rehearsed little by little each week in Ryan's car with each consecutive drive to band practice on Saturdays.

This instrumental track, "Olivetime," is what Jason and Ryan were playing just before they started working on the "Dinner with Derelicts" tune. Melissa was at the gym and Dennis was at work, so the basement was free for part of the evening, and it got a bit noisy. Jason called this track "Olivetime" as a reference to his late '90s pre-Aquarium band, Olive Juice, of which he and Ryan were the sole band members.

A fifteen-second sliver of this song, "Olivetime," very nearly made it onto the album. While sequencing, we noticed that it sounded pretty great when slammed against "Dinner with Derelict," almost like an intro to the song. However, it didn't work as a follow-up to "Too Many Lens Flares," so we scrapped it.

Soccer Team Washington, D.C.

Soccer Team is an unpopular band from Washington, DC. They are largely ignored by their target audience and pretty much ignored by their close friends and peers. They have played abysmal and poorly attended shows in states such as South Carolina and Kentucky, whereby the sole attendance was comprised of the other bands on the bill. Despite this, they continue to write songs and play shows. ... more
