Problems with Prolonged Youth

This song began with a demo track called “Philistine Girl” presented by Jason (to hear how “Philistine Girl” transformed into “Problems…” listen to track #15 further down this list). Jason presented a keyboard-heavy demo that Ryan added vocals to when he wasn’t looking. As a band, we started working on the instrumental version, keyboards and all, while Ryan kept working on the vocal melody at home (never intending to actually sing it).
Eventually, we recorded this basic drum and bass track, with the intention of having Jason add keyboards later, but Melissa entered the room first, so Ryan asked her to sing the song on this rough demo. She wasn’t familiar with the vocal melody, so Ryan provided a scratch track to follow. While mixing, the two vocal parts layered together became an accidental but interesting twist, and from there we kept going in that direction.
The title of the song comes from a conversation between Melissa and Ryan, a bit before Soccer Team existed. At some point Melissa said, "some people have problems with prolonged youth," and Ryan stored it away as a potential song title.
